Kaleigh Cronin Vocal Care Routine

I recently sat down with Kaleigh Cronin, cast member of Death Becomes Her on Broadway, to discuss her vocal care routine! Kaleigh is dedicated to caring for her voice and keeping her instrument healthy. Kaleigh is a powerhouse performer holding down not one, but two iconic roles as the understudy for both Madeleine Ashton and Helen Sharp.

“How cool is it that now I can truly, like in a pinch, in an emergency, only bring this tin and I feel like I’m covered?”

Kaleigh swears by her Grether’s. Whether she’s leading the charge on stage or singing backup in the ensemble, that classic gold tin is never far from reach, but her prep starts well before curtain call.

Night Before: Nebulizers & Water

A smooth show tomorrow starts with smart habits tonight.

  • Nebulize before bed: “I try to nebulize, get my throat in a good place before bed.”

  • Hydrate, hydrate, hydrate: Kaleigh loads up on water before sleep to ensure she wakes up already ahead on hydration.

Morning: Throat Check, Tea & Steam

Her first vocal check-in happens with a warm mug and some intentional breathing.

  • Throat coat tea is her go-to.

  • Mental voice scan: “Where am I at today?” she asks herself.

  • Sometimes steaming: A great way to loosen up the cords and ease into the day.

Daily Vocal Warmup — No Exceptions

Whether she’s performing as Madeleine or just in her regular track (which includes first soprano while dancing, thank you very much), Kaleigh never skips her vocal warmup.

“Every single day, without fail.”

Her routine:

  1. Start with Vox Explora

  2. Full warmup using recordings from her vocal coach, Mike Ruckels

  3. Do it in the shower for double the benefit: warmth and steam

“Close the door, don’t put the fan on, let it like steam up in there and then get in and do your warmup.”

Showtime: Grether’s, Mists, & Singing Straws

Once at the theater, it’s all about maintenance and staying supported.

  • Grether’s Pastilles: She hands an entire bucket to her two dressers—yes, really.

  • Singing straw: Especially on days when she’s performing as Madeleine.

  • VocalMist: Keeps things hydrated backstage.

  • Water: Always within reach.

And when it’s time to take the stage?

“When I start the show as Madeleine, I have a Grether’s tucked in my lip.”

Final Thoughts

Kaleigh’s routine is the perfect blend of discipline, intuition, and tried-and-true tools. From her morning tea to that final minty moment before she steps into the spotlight, it’s all designed to keep her voice clear, supported, and ready for eight shows a week.
